The Firm — Est. 2004

Industry experts with over $13B
in transactions closed.

Innovation Capital is recognized as a leader in the industry: 120+ transactions comprising over $13B since inception in 2004. Our deep experience and relationships provide clients with industry-specific knowledge, trends, valuation drivers — and the strategies to capitalize on the right opportunity at the right time.

Principle 01

Specialized advisory, product & industry expertise

Not generalists covering gaming on the side. Every comp, every multiple, every buyer call is grounded in gaming, leisure, restaurant and retail operating reality.

Principle 02

High level of senior professional participation

Partners lead every engagement personally — the same senior bankers from the first market assessment through the closing wire. With approximately 13 professionals, there is no hand-off to a junior deal team.

Principle 03

Emphasis on long-term relationships

Clients return across decades and multiple transactions. In this business, the relationship precedes the deal — and outlasts it.

Gaming & Leisure Practice

Privately-held commercial casinos, Native American tribal gaming entities, gaming equipment manufacturers, and sports betting & iGaming businesses — nearly every segment of the gaming and hospitality industry since 2004.

  • Commercial & tribal casino M&A, conventional debt and project finance
  • Gaming equipment manufacturers & cashless systems
  • Sports betting, iGaming and gaming technology
  • Leisure, travel & hospitality platforms
Candlelit fine dining table setting in an elegant restaurant

Restaurant & Retail Practice

Owner-operators and founder-led brands in restaurant and retail, valued $20M–$500M — sell-side mandates, growth capital, recapitalizations and fairness opinions, run with the same discipline as our gaming practice.

  • Fast-casual, elevated-casual and fine-dining groups
  • Specialty and experiential retail chains
  • Franchise and corporate-owned portfolios
  • Consumer platforms seeking sponsor capital
Field Note 01

Sovereign land changes the collateral.

Tribal casinos are built on sovereign land — lenders cannot take a lien on the real property. Security sits in the machines and the ability to shut them off. Financing structures follow that fact.

Field Note 02

The funding gap is the franchise.

The large banks hold capital for the major casinos. Mid-level properties needing $20M–$500M were underserved — a hole in the market, and the opportunity around which this firm was built on relationships.

Field Note 03

The gaming consultant speaks first.

When a tribe or company looks to buy, build or expand, step one is a gaming consultant sizing the market opportunity and the slot revenue a property can support. We underwrite behind that number.

Field Note 04

The horizon: sports & internet gaming.

Casinos make very little on sports betting itself — but enhanced sports-betting opportunities create brand loyalty and, ultimately, more consumers. Post-closure home demand made that thesis.

Field notes paraphrased from "The Money Behind the Casino — Inside the World of Casino Finance," an interview with Matt Sodl (compedtravel.com).
